Africa: Africa Makes TB Progress, But Global Spike Makes It Deadliest Disease in 2023

[allAfrica] Monrovia — Tuberculosis was the leading killer among infectious diseases in 2023, the World Health Organization said. While the number of TB-related deaths decreased from 1.32 million in 2022 to 1.25 million in 2023, the UN agency says the total number of people falling ill with TB “rose slightly to an estimated 10.8 million in 2023”, more than 8 million of which are newly affected.
